EIPO-EXPOS not determined according to functional descriptions

Hi,

I would be most grateful if someone could shed some light on how exactly EXPOS is generated/copied from. That is, not according to the SAP standard explanation but someone who has actually debugged the standard VF01 to analyse what really happens technically.

According to SAP standard "EIPO-EXPOS is generally copied from the sales order item number unless there is a delivery. In this case it is copied from the delivery item."

Now we have a few cases where this is not true.

I would agree that sales-order based billing documents have EIPO-EXPOS = VBAP-POSNR. However for delivery-based items it is not always true that EIPO-EXPOS = LIPS-POSNR. In most of our billing documents this is true but in a small and seemingly arbitrary number of items EXPOS is sometimes copied from the sales order although it was delivery-based billing.

The only scenario where EXPOS is always in sync with LIPS-POSNR is in the case of an STO where there is no sales order but a purchase order. The billing is necessarily delivery-based and EXPOS and LIPS-POSNR are the same.

Is anybody aware of any exceptions where EXPOS is in sync with the sales order item although it is delivery-based?

Besides, we don't have any custom-made copy routines. Standard only.

Thanks.
